air loss is common among men, especially as they age. While some men maintain a full head of hair even through grandparenthood, others become bald at a young age.

Various things contribute to hair loss, including genetics, nutrition and even stress.

As reported by kompas.com, there are simple daily habits that could help maintain hair and prevent it from falling out.

Scalp massage

Giving your scalp a massage while shampooing your hair not only ensures a thorough cleanse but could also help hair grow strong and healthy.

Avoid massaging or rubbing the scalp too roughly. A slow yet firm massage could trigger blood flow to the scalp and facilitate the supply of nutrients to the hair.

Enough nutrients would subsequently help strengthen the hair and stop it from falling out. A massage could also help reduce tension.

More conditioner, less shampoo

While it's important to regularly wash to maintain a healthy head of hair, too much shampoo could have the opposite effect. Shampoo contains cleansers and detergents that make the hair stiff and strip it of oils that protect it.

Washing the hair every day can make it more vulnerable to snapping and falling out. So it's better to wash it every two or three days while also applying conditioner to strengthen the hair.

Use shampoo first to remove dirt and excess oil and then conditioner to restore softness.

Washing hair with cold water

Using hot water to wash your hair could make the scalp dry and the hair prone to breaking.

While clean hair would make it healthier, it is better to wash it with cold water to also help maintain the natural oils necessary to protect and maintain strength.

Using lightweight hair products

Many men choose to style their hair using gel, wax and pomade. The stronger the product, the harsher its effects on the hair .

Gels and wax weigh down hair to maintain its shape, which should be avoided if you have hair that is prone to falling out. A lightweight alternative would be to use cream-based products for everyday use.

Wear hats, although not too tightly

Overexposure to UV rays could lead to hair fall, especially when their hair is already sparse, making the scalp more vulnerable to sunburn.

It is recommended you wear a hat when venturing out into the sun. Avoid brushing the hair backward to be held down by the hat. Instead, make sure the hair falls in its natural direction.

The hat should also sit on the head loosely in order to let the scalp breathe. (liz/kes)
