The Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) 2017 is set to be held in Manado in North Sulawesi for the first time on Nov. 11.
“The festival has never been held in Manado and [the plan is fully supported by] the city administration,” said the festival's committee head and film producer, Leni Lolang, as quoted by kompas.com.
The event was previously held in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Semarang in Central Java and Palembang in South Sumatra, among others.

“It [won't be] easy [to bring the festival to Manado] because the majority of film stakeholders are based in Jakarta,” said Leni. “But we will try to [bring] the nominees to Manado [so that] they will be able to receive the award directly."
The festival is set to present awards in 22 categories, including long and short films, animation, documentary, Lifetime Achievement and In Memoriam.
The head of the judging panel and film director Riri Riza told Antara news agency that the judging criteria include film idea, theme, quality of technique, as well as aestheticism and professionalism.
“Hopefully the judging process will be more objective and participative and [we will have] acceptable winners as the outcome,” Riri said. (wir/kes)
