Below is a list of upcoming local horror flicks that we think will be good enough to give you nightmares:
Pengabdi Setan
Pengabdi Setan (Satan’s Slave) is actually a remake of the renowned 1980s film with the same name by Sisworo Gautama Putra, a director known for making good scary movies. Written and directed by Joko Anwar, this remake is surely promising and slated for release on Sept. 28.
The film itself, which starred Tara Basro, Endy Arvian, Nazar Anuz and Dimas Aditya, follows a family who loses a mother who had been sick for three years. The father later decides to work in the city and leaves the kids at home. Not long after, the children begin to feel that their mother has returned to the house.
Gerbang Neraka
After bringing back the haunting Jailangkung to the big screen in collaboration with director Jose Poernomo, director Rizal Mantovani has moved on to the supernatural adventure film Gerbang Neraka (Gate of Hell).
Set to be release on Sept. 20, the film follows Tomo, a journalist working for a tabloid about supernatural topics, who is assigned to do a reportage on Gunung Padang megalithic site in Cianjur, West Java. He later meets a psychic named Guntur and the head of the site’s archaeologist team, Arni. The group eventually find out that the historical place is actually a prison for an ancient power that wants to destroy the world.
Among the cast of Gerbang Neraka are Reza Rahadian, Dwi Sasono, Julie Estelle and Ray Sahetapy.

Suzanna
Director Anggy Umbara is set to remake legendary scary movies starring the late Indonesian horror queen Suzanna with filming schedule slated to start by the end of this year.
Titled Suzanna, the film will especially focuses on Sundelbolong (1981), which tells the story of Alisa, a woman-turned-ghost who holds a grudge on her killers.
Danur 2
The first installment of Danur successfully garnered more than 2,000,000 audiences and named the most-watched Indonesian horror film. Directed by Awi Suryadi, the movie, which was adapted from a book written by singer Risa Saraswati, tells the story of Risa who befriends three little ghosts and has to save her younger sister from an evil ghost that lives near their house.
No word yet on when the film is set to be release. (kes)
