The late Russian baritone Eduard Khil’s 83rd birthday, which fell on Sept. 4, is being celebrated by Google Doodle.
Khil was widely known as “Mr. Trololo” because of his viral YouTube video in which he sang the melodious harmony.
The doodle showed an animated version of Khil performing “I Am Glad Because I Am Finally Returning Back Home”, which contains the popular “tro-lo-lo” harmony in 1976. In the video, he could be seen performing on stage wearing a brown suit and mustard-colored tie with expressive eyebrows and a smile on his face.
The video was reportedly uploaded on YouTube in 2009, which later made the Soviet-era singer famous on the web. According to Google, Khil himself only found out that he had become an internet sensation and a meme after he heard his grandson humming the song.

The artist also received many awards, including the People’s Artist of Russia in 1974.
Khil passed away in a hospital in St. Petersburg on June 4, 2012, at the age of 77 years. (wir/kes)
