‘The Lord of the Rings’ Peter Jackson set to make World War I documentary

Critically-acclaimed director Peter Jackson, through a film, will be tackling one of the wars that shaped history.
The man behind highly successful movies such as “King Kong”and “The Lord of the Rings” franchise is set to make a documentary about World War I, and will collaborate with BBC and London’s Imperial War Museum for archival footage, Variety reported.
The film, which will be set in 2D and 3D format, is part of “14-18 Now”. It is a program supported by the British Lottery fund in partnership with the British government’s culture department.
“We’re making a film [that is] not the usual film you would expect on the First World War. We’re making a film that shows this incredible footage in which the faces of the men just jump out at you,” the director said.

Some restored and colorized footage to be included in the film have not been seen before. To make the documentary relatable, producers spent hours to sift through interview of veterans who lived through the war.
“We have made a movie which shows the experience of what it was like to fight in this war, not strategy [or] battles,” the report quoted Jackson.
Once finished, it will also be shown to secondary schools in Britain to help students understand history. The film will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the end of the war.
