Pasar Lama Tangerang is one of the few remnants of Chinese culture in Tangerang.

In addition to markets selling Chinese trinkets and culinary delights, a number of distinct buildings stand as witnesses to history.

One of them is Boen Tek Bio temple, located inside the market and thought to be built three centuries ago. The temple is known as the oldest of the three located in Tangerang.

There is also Benteng Heritage Museum behind the Boen Tek Bio temple. It was built by Udaya Halim, a Chinese descendant, to preserve his ancestors’ culture. (wen)
