oko Anwar’s celebrated horror film Pengabdi Setan (Satan’s Slave) is set to be made available on online streaming service iflix from Feb. 23.

The platform’s users can opt to stream or watch it offline by downloading the film beforehand.

In a statement, Joko is hopeful that the streaming platform would allow people to access the film more easily, hence reducing piracy.

“I’m so glad Pengabdi Setan can be accessed through this platform, so that people who haven’t watched the movie can watch it and those who want to visit the mother’s family can do it anytime,” said the director.

Produced by Rapi Films, Pengabdi Setan is a remake of the 1980 film with the same name directed by Sisworo Gautama Putra. It narrates the terror experienced by a family who live in a suburb of Jakarta following the death of their mother. Tara Basro, Bront Palarae, Endy Arfian and Ayu Laksmi are among the actors featured in the film.

Pengabdi Setan has been quite a success as it reportedly attracted 4.2 million cinemagoers. It has also received many awards, including for Best Cinematography at the 37th Indonesian Film Festival last year.

Following its screening in Malaysia and Singapore, the film is set to be screened in other countries including Australia, the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Canada, New Zealand and Switzerland.

According to kompas.com, Joko is currently working on his upcoming film, A Mother’s Love, where he serves as both the director and producer.

“It’s a drama with a touch of horror – but it’s mostly a drama,” he said. “We're currently shooting until March and it's slated to be broadcast on HBO at the end of this year.” (wir/kes)
