ogyakarta's annual art exhibition ART|JOG is set to return on May 4, and will run until June 4. The event will once again take place at the Jogja National Museum (JNM), which used to be the building of Indonesia's Fine Arts Academy.

The theme this year is Enlightenment: Towards Various Futures, and will showcase the works of 40 invited local and international artists, including participants from the Philippines, Singapore and China, according to a statement issued to The Jakarta Post.

The statement further noted that enlightenment, for the event, is interpreted as a momentum that can free humans from the isolation of the cult and the triumph of rationality.

"By taking the spirit of enlightenment, hopefully art can strengthen the critical point of view in regarding the reality with all its problems around us; encouraging us not to use the singular point of view in order to be able to stare at and to deliver human being into the various futures," the statement said.

In addition to the invited artists, ART|JOG had also made an open call for potential young artists, where the artist Mulyana would be featured.

"The Curator Team believes that Mulyana, over the last three years, has shown himself to be a young artist who keeps on revealing his best potential through his craft," the statement said.

It further noted that Mulyana's art is in line with this year's theme, as his work on characters under the sea reflects a curiosity to broaden horizons by presenting a unique kind of beauty and mystery. (liz/mut)
