ith the support of the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), Indonesia will hold an architecture exhibition themed “Sunyata” (silence) at the Venice Architecture Biennale (VAB) in Italy.

“This year, Indonesia is once again participating in one of the biggest architecture events in the world,” said Joshua Puji Mulia Simanjuntak, Bekraf’s deputy of marketing, to Antara on Wednesday.

Held from May 26 to Nov. 25, this year’s VAB is titled “Freespace”, which is described as a generosity of spirit, a democratic space and provides the opportunity to emphasize nature’s free gifts of light, among others.

“Each country is given the freedom to translate Freespace,” said Joshua.

The Indonesian pavilion will exhibit installations from main curator Ary Indrayanto of architecture firm Aboday, along with five other curators, namely David Hutama Setiadi, Adwitya Dimas Satria, Ardy Hartono Kurniawan, Jonathan Aditya Gahari and Johanes Adika Gahari.

Joshua said though the event is not on the commercial side, it would showcase Indonesian architects’ positions in the world.

“As we are expected to give responses and approaches to the theme, the result will take form in art installations,” he said.

The Indonesian pavilion in VAB will be officiated by Triawan Munaf, head of Bekraf, on Friday and will be open to the public on Saturday. (wng)
