It is a tradition to send gifts to friends, neighbors or business partners during Ramadhan.

Known as hantaran, such gifts symbolize appreciation and the hope to maintain a good relationship.

Those looking for the perfect hantaran might consider the following items recommended by two Jakarta hotels.

The Westin Jakarta

The Westin Jakarta in South Jakarta recommends its raspberry chocolate cake for hantaran.

The hotel’s executive pastry chef, Farid, said the cake was a combination of Valrhona Manjari chocolate, which originates from Madagascar, and raspberries, resulting in a fresh and tangy flavor.

The cake, which stays fresh for a long time at room temperature, is available at the Daily Treats restaurant upon ordering at least three days prior to pick-up.

Dubbed the picnic basket, the hotel's gift package includes assorted house-sliced cold cuts and marinated cheese, vegetable antipasti, freshly baked breads, organic vegetable salads, flavored water and freshly squeezed juice an ideal spread to be enjoyed outdoors.

The hotel’s executive chef, Matias Ayala, said the picnic basket was perfect to share while spending quality time with your loved ones. (wng)
