he world will always remember when Michael Jackson introduced the moonwalk during Motown’s 25th anniversary TV special on May 16, 1983.

His signature dance move has become a legendary dance move that still lives in the hearts of his fans. And now, the same pair of shoes that Jackson wore in the performance, which have been dubbed lovingly as “magic shoes”, were up for auction.

Starting at a bid of US$10,000, the auction took place at Hilton Hills in Los Angeles. The item, of course, are the black leather Florsheim Imperial leather loafers size 9.5 that boast a Michael Jackson signature on the soles written in blue marker, also marked as “Motown 25”. Meanwhile, the other shoes are marked as “Michael #2”.

The catalog promises that the shoes are still in very good condition, with barely any wear. They have been in the possession of choreographer and dancer Lester Wilston after Jackson himself gave them to him. They also come with a letter, proving the authenticity of the shoes.

“Anything related to Michael Jackson is extraordinary, and to have something so incredibly historical as these shoes worn by Michael when he first did that now famous moonwalk is beyond special,” Brigitte Kruse, owner of GWS Auctions, told CNN. “We are so very honored to be able to offer them at auction.”

According to the auction's website, the shoes had been bought off for $80,000 though not yet verified. (ely/kes)
