arly recordings of compositions by Indonesia's pop legend Fariz RM, written between 1977 and 1982, are now available for the first time on vinyl.
Remastered and pressed by new independent label Hitam Manis Records, the compilation, titled Early Tapes 1977-1982, collects some of Fariz's best-loved singles such as "Selangkah ke Seberang" (One Step to the Other Side), "Sakura" and "Semusim" (One Season).
Trade publication Vinyl Factory reported that the songs had been remastered from the original tapes in collaboration with Fariz himself.
In a statement, Hitam Manis said that "with his unique talent as a multi-instrumentalist, Fariz wrote no fewer than 1,760 songs during his magnificent years from 1980-2000 and is still one of the most in-demand and legendary Indonesian performers and producers ever noted by history."
There have been many local projects to reissue Fariz's music from his golden era, but most lacked in quality with some of the CDs being remastered from dubious sources.

Hitam Manis only pressed 500 copies of the new compilation album, and due to high demand from local record collectors, some records outlets have run out of stock in recent days.
Some copies have ended up in second-hand markets at an exorbitant price.
