After producing the successful film Straight Outta Compton, rapper Dr. Dre will produce a biopic based on Marvin Gaye.
apper and producer Dr. Dre has revealed that he has a Marvin Gaye biopic in the works and is currently in the process of getting the film off the ground.
Variety confirmed that the rights to use Gaye’s music, which includes hits such as “What’s Going On”, “Sexual Healing” and “Let’s Get It On”, have already been secured.
Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, last served as a producer and inspiration for 2015’s biopic, Straight Outta Compton, which followed the rise of his hip-hop group N.W.A.
He later became a mentor and producer for younger rappers such as 2Pac, Snoop Dog, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar.

Many in the past, including F. Gary Gray, Cameron Crowe, Scott Rudin, Jesse L. Martin, and Lenny Kravitz, have reached out and tried to produce a biopic about Gaye, but until now, none have been approved by the estate.
The Gaye estate did authorize a series to be backed by Jamie Foxx in 2016, but the project has yet to be produced.
Gaye was widely known as one of Motown’s most successful artists before he was fatally shot by his father at the age of 44. (sul/wng)
