Before becoming 007, James Bond was just a teenager.

A new comic book series, titled James Bond Origin and to be published by Dynamite Entertainment, will explore the secret agent’s life before the iconic movie series, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter

The comic, which will be published monthly, will follow Bond beginning in March 1941, as he visits a family friend and is caught in the crossfire of a German attack on the United Kingdom in the midst of World War II.

James Bond Origin will be written by Jeff Parker, who is joined by artist Bob Q from The Green Hornet.

"It's a weighty challenge to reverse-engineer this icon into a young man on a life’s journey of danger, but [editor] Nate Cosby paired me up with Bob Q, who not only brings the gravitas of war in 1941 Europe but nails the promising hero in his youth," said writer Jeff Parker Tuesday in a statement from the publisher. "James doesn’t have the vast experience of a double-O agent yet, but he's tenacious and a lightning-quick study. Bob and I work to show the full force of Bond’s spirit."

The first installment of the series will be released digitally and in comic book stores physically in September of this year. (sul/wng)
