MTV Studios will create reboots of 'Daria' and 'The Real World', both hit shows in the 1990's.
TV has announced the launch of a new production unit, MTV Studios, dedicated to the creation of new shows as well as reboots of past productions.
Some of these reboots include Daria and Jodie, based on the 1997 cartoon Daria that ran for five seasons, and The Real World, based on the 1992 reality show of the same name that has since been credited with launching the modern reality TV industry.
Original shows currently slated for production also include The Valley, described by MTV as “a classic coming of age docu-series featuring first loves, relationships and life decisions – with a twist” and MTV’s Straight Up Ghosted, which follows people as they try to reconnect with people who have “ghosted” them online.

“MTV has the biggest collection of hit youth franchises that spans more than three decades of content and over 200 titles, part of which have fueled our resurgence,” Chris McCarthy, MTV’s president, told Variety. “With MTV Studios, we are for the first time ever opening up this vault beyond our own platforms to reimagine the franchises with new partners.”
“Remembering how cool and stylish the original MTV anime was and knowing how the world always needs more badass female action heroes, it felt like a perfect match for this new age of content,” said MTV’s Teen Wolf showrunner Jeff Davis, who will be at the helm of one of these reboots, a live-action remake of 1991 anime Aeon Flux. “And of course, I’d be working with Gale Anne Hurd, legendary producer of The Terminator and Aliens, two movies that convinced me against better judgment to get into this insane business.” (sul/wng)
