"Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams" is set to be held in London’s Victoria and Albert Museum.
nly days after wrapping up this year’s haute couture week in Paris, fashion powerhouse Dior with Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) announced the largest Christian Dior exhibition in the United Kingdom.
Titled "Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams", the exhibition is slated to run from Feb. 2 to July 14, 2019 in the museum’s Sainsbury Gallery. It is being called the most comprehensive of House of Dior’s exhibitions to be staged in the UK. The history and impact of the influential couturier, with six artistic directors who have succeeded Dior himself, will be showcased through collections that span from 1947 to the present day.
Visitors to this exhibition are in for an exploration of the fashion house’s enduring influence, as the exhibition will present over 500 subjects including 200 rare haute couture garments, accessories, fashion photography, films, perfumes and Dior’s personal possessions.
According to a released statement, V&A is to reimagine the major exhibition "Christian Dior: Couturier du Reve", organized by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris. The highlight would be a brand-new section dedicated to exploring the designer’s fascination with British culture.

Dior once said: "There is no other country in the world, besides my own, whose way of life I like so much. I love English traditions, English politeness, English architecture. I even love English cooking.”
His preference also includes that of Savile Row suits. He, too, has notable British clients, and his creative collaboration with them will also be shown in the exhibition. Among the notable clients are ballet dancer Margot Fonteyn and Princess Margaret, who wore a Christian Dior dress on her 21st birthday celebration. The dress will be on loan for the exhibition from Museum of London.
Tim Reeve, deputy director and COO of V&A said "Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams" would be the largest fashion exhibition V&A had undertaken since "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty". He believes that the exhibition will shed new light on Dior’s fascination with Britain.
Tickets to "Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams" will go on sale in autumn 2018, while the current exhibition, "Fashioned from Nature", will continue until Jan. 27, 2019. (mut)
