udus-born Triyadi Guntur Wiratmo’s Jumpa Di Tengah Kota (Rendezvous at City Center) tells a story about guerrilla fighters meeting in the middle of the city after seizing the city of Yogyakarta from the Dutch.

Inspired by his teacher Mr. Dullah, Guntur’s understanding of the historical narrative is that reconstruction is inseparable from subjectivity. Jumpa Di Tengah Kota is a statement on the unreliability of truth in the writing of history and how it only recognizes the grand narrative. The artwork also celebrates the narrative of shunning the “taken for granted” mentality in regard to historical narratives.

Guntur received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in visual communication design from the Faculty of Arts and Design at the Bandung Institute of Technology, where he is currently a lecturer. With a string of group and solo exhibitions under his belt, Guntur is also known as an award-winning artist.

He was listed as a finalist at the 2008 Akili Museum Awards and won the Recommended Illustrator Award at the 2002 Bratislava International Illustration Biennale. He also participated in a residency at the Art Camp in Toyama in 2012.
