acing each other, both the Wuling SUV and DFSK Glory 580 drew the interest of visitors at the GIIAS, which took place in the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) compound in Tangerang, Banten, from Aug. 2 to 12. Many visitors hoped that the two brands from China would offer alternatives to the Japanese and Korean ones that have already entered Indonesia, and others from Europe and America.

The DFSK Glory 580 has gained the upper hand in price because the Wuling SUV is not yet officially marketed in Indonesia.

The Glory 580 is sold at a price of between Rp 245.9 million (US$16,848) and Rp 308 million.

The Wuling SUV still has no official price but it is estimated to cost from Rp 200 million to no more than Rp 300 million, which is less expensive than other brands.

The Wuling SUV, which is known as the Baojun 530 in China, measures 4,655 millimeters long, 1,835 mm wide and 1,760 mm high, while the Glory 580’s dimensions are 4,680 mm, 1,845 mm and 1,715 mm respectively.

The Glory 580 is thus slightly longer and wider, while the Wuling SUV is taller, with five doors on each car. Both cars have 1.8 liter and 1.5 L turbo engine variants. The Wuling SUV’s 1.5-liter engine can produce a maximum of 150 horsepower (HP) at 5,500 revolutions per minute (rpm) and a peak torque of 230 Nm at 2,000 to 3,800 rpm, while its 1.8-liter variant generates a maximum of 137 HP at 5,600 rpm and a peak torque of 186 Nm at 3,600 to 4,000 rpm. It has not been confirmed yet whether one or two variants will enter Indonesia.

On the other hand, the DFSK Glory 580’s 1.5-liter engine turns out as high as 147 HP at 5,600 rpm and a peak torque of 220 Nm at 1,800 to 4,000 rpm. Its 1.8-liter variant creates 147 HP at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 187 Nm at 3,600 to 4,200 rpm. The two SUV brands use a Front Wheel Drive system. The features of both models are similar. The Wuling SUV, which earned five stars in the vehicle feasibility test of the Chinese New Car Assessment Program, is equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) to ensure gentle and precise braking performance. For vehicle stability on slippery and hilly routes, it is fitted with traction control (TRAC), vehicle dynamics control (VDC) and hill-start assist (HSA) systems.

The same braking systems are also found in the Glory 580, which is complemented by electronic brake assist (EBA) to maximize its braking performance. Prioritizing safety, the Glory 580 has dual front SRS airbags and rear side airbags, with a seatbelt pretensioner. For extra child protection, the Glory 580 also comes with ISOFIX, the international standard for attaching child seats to upholstery, on the lower and upper parts of the back of a seat. ISOFIX has been a requirement for new cars in Europe since 2007.

In terms of the interior, the Glory 580 offers a 10-inch touch screen while the Wuling SUV has an 8-inch.

Sunroof, keyless entry, start/stop button, cruise control, multi information display, and USB ports are standard features of both cars.

The Wuling SUV has a panoramic sunroof that connects with the second line while the Glory 580 only has an electric sunroof on the first line. Both cars’ upholstery is coated with leather. Sadly, the Wuling SUV on display is the left-hand drive version sold in China.

The Wuling SUV offers a more modern interior and exterior, but its storage space is smaller and it is only a five-seater car, whereas the Glory 580 can accommodate seven people with a seven-year guarantee, but its interior and exterior are relatively modest. However, the performance and features of both are about the same.
