George R.R. Martin has confirmed that the title of the prequel to the Game of Thrones series will be "The Long Night".
uthor George R.R. Martin has confirmed the title of the first prequel series to Game of Thrones as The Long Night, as reported by Esquire.
The news was revealed in a post on Martin’s official website announcing Naomi Watts joining said prequel on Tuesday. “Casting is now underway for THE LONG NIGHT, the first of the GAME OF THRONES successor series to ordered to film,” it says.
HBO officially confirmed that a Game of Thrones prequel was in the works in early June. A few days later, Martin declared "The Long Night" as his personal choice for the prequel's title in his blog, though he seemed pessimistic about it becoming the official title.

In the Game of Thrones universe, The Long Night is a Westeros event set 8000 years before the Targaryen Conquest. It was a period when the winter lasted a whole generation and the White Walkers started appearing in the world.
Martin also wrote that Jane Goldman, who scripted the pilot for The Long Night and will be running the show, is now busy casting in London with her team, so fans can expect name reveals soon. (iru/wng)
