nline marketplace Shopee Indonesia has recorded the highest number of transactions to date during its 11.11 Big Sale on Monday.
With more than 11 million transactions, this year's figure is 4.5 higher than the transactions recorded on Nov. 11 last year, reports kompas.com.
More than 42 million online visitors took part in the promotional event across all product categories at a sales rate of more than 58,000 products per minute.
Shopee CEO Chris Feng said that this year's online shopping festival was its most successful yet.
“The growth of our 11.11 shopping festival from year to year has proven that 11.11 is and will always be an important date for the yearend shopping season in Southeast Asia and Taiwan,” Feng said in a statement on Tuesday.
The 11.11 Big Sale also featured a new in-app game, quizzes and exclusive offers from partnering brands.
Beauty products, women’s clothing and electronic devices were among customers' favored products during the promotional event. The platform recorded that its male customers mostly bought earphones, smartphones and bags, while female customers bought hijabs, micellar water and cooking oils.

Shopee Indonesia said it was confident that its mobile-first strategy was the key to its successful 11.11 Big Sale, with 99 percent of all transactions conducted via mobile phones.
Aside from promotional offers, Shopee Indonesia said it also supported the development of local entrepreneurs through its Kampus Shopee (Shopee campus) sustainable program, which aimed to grow the country's digital economy. (mut)
