Fortnite opens US$1m winter tournament to the public

Qualifiers will be taking place on Saturday or Sunday, and the finals will begin on Nov. 30 in Europe and Dec. 11 in North America.

egistration is now open for the first time to anyone with a Fortnite account to compete in the 100-person drop-in Fortnite Winter Royale open tournament for a US$1 million prize pool. 

Qualifiers will be taking place on Saturday or Sunday, and the finals will begin on Nov. 30 in Europe and Dec. 11 in North America.

According to a post on the official Epic Games website, the Winter Royale will have top performing players in each region for Europe and North America verified. Once found eligible, selected players will receive invitations to participate in the Winter Royale Finals for their region. 

The post also goes on to say that Epic Games planned to hold other region-specific tournaments in additional regions sometime in the near future.

The massive multiplayer online game previously held a tournament in October, in which cash prizes were also up for grabs but was invite-only and restricted to professionals, according to The Verge

Epic Games also previously announced the 2019 Fortnite World Cup at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) earlier this year.
