JAKARTA: Author Ayu Utami will soon launch her new book titled Pengadilan Susila (Susila's Trial), which is based on the script of her theater play of the same title.
"The book will be launched in Yogyakarta on March 8 to coincide with International Women's Day," Ayu told The Jakarta Post on Saturday.
Unlike her previous literary works, Ayu considers her new book a weapon to fight against the morality movement and regulations that violate women's rights.
Ayu has two novels, Saman and Larung, with the former already translated into Dutch and English.
The book Pengadilan Susila will consist of the script, the anti-pornography bill, which is currently being discussed at the House of Representatives, and Ayu's comments on the bill.
"I started writing the script two years ago after joining a massive protest against the bill," Ayu said.
Yogyakarta-based company Teater Gandrik staged Pengadilan Susila at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki Cultural Center, in Central Jakarta from Feb. 22 to Feb. 23.
The script, which was co-written by Agus Noor, will be performed by the same theater group in Yogyakarta from March 7 to March 8. -- JP/A. Junaidi
