JAKARTA: State Minister for Youth and Sports Affair Adhyaksa Dault, who earlier criticized singer Dewi Persik for being "too hot" during her on-stage performance, praised the dangdut diva after she apologized and promised to change her style.
"We have to appreciate her for admitting her mistake and issuing an apology. We have to respect that," the minister said as quoted by detik.com newsportal.
Dewi Persik was banned from publicly performing in Tangerang and Bandung reportedly due to her "vulgar" outfits and stage performance.
She blasted the ban, introduced by Tangerang Mayor Wahidin Halim, before reversing position after Bandung Mayor Dada Rosada also banned her shows.
She said she was only trying to entertain fans and did not intent to violate prevailing norms.
"I apologize to the ulema, the religious preachers and scholars. I also apologize to my fans I have disappointed," she said. -- JP
