JAKARTA: Actress Titi Kamal, who rose to fame after playing the lead role in Mendadak Dangdut (Suddenly Dangdut), will play the role of a prostitute in her new film Doa yang Mengancam (The Prayer That Threatens).
In the film, Titi plays a poor prostitute named Leha, who suffers from depression and runs away from her husband; played by popular comedian Aming.
"The character is difficult and challenging. I have to play a very depressed, unfortunate and poor person," the 27-year-old actress was quoted as saying by Detik.com on Wednesday.
She said she paid a village woman for the right to observe and discuss her life so she could learn how to play the character of a poor person.
"Fortunately, the shooting was not intensive every day. If it was intensive, I could have become really depressed," she said.
Titi said fans should not expect a sexual scene in the film.
"The hooker is just a symbol. There are no (sexual scenes) at all," she added. --JP
