Vonny Cornelia rejects polygamy

JAKARTA: Although she plays the role of a wife in a polygamous marriage in her new film, actress Vonny Cornelia claims she disagrees with the practice of polygamy.

"I wouldn't be prepared if my husband wanted to marry again. So, it was hard to play the role," the 28-year-old actress was quoted as saying by Detik.com on Tuesday following the premier of her new film Mengaku Rasul (Claiming to be a Prophet).

In the flick -- which seems to be based on the recent true story of a man named Ahmad Moshadeq, who claimed to be a prophet -- Vonny plays Saijah, the wife of a self-proclaiming "prophet" (played by senior actor Ray Sahetapy, and mother of a son (played by Indonesian Idol 2006 star Ihksan).

Besides the polygamy issue, Vonny, who has also starred in several TV soaps, said she was also concerned about recent religious teachings that are considered heretical.

Vonny started her career as a model for a beauty soap. She is also known as a member of the female vocal group Bening, which has produced three albums.--JP
