Marissa becomes police academy lecturer

MARISSA HAQUE: (JP/P.J. Leo)

JAKARTA: Actress-cum-politician Marissa Haque's dreams of becoming a lecturer have come true.

Marissa, who is the wife of singer Ikang Fawzi, said she had long been interested in becoming a trainer and would soon realize her dream when she begins teaching students of the Semarang Police Academy.

"I start teaching in August," Marissa was quoted as saying by Antara news agency.

She said the teaching opportunity was offered directly by the head of the police academy, Insp. Gen. Sutjiptadi, who was the former chief of the Riau Police.

Marissa, who previously worked as a film producer and director, said she accepted the offer not for the honorarium she would receive but because she wanted to help shape the minds of the academy's students on how to better serve society.

The 45-year-old will teach criminology at the academy.

Marissa, a former member of the House of Representatives, was involved in a dispute with Banten governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah earlier this year. She claimed Ratu was holding a false bachelor's degree. Ratu counter-claimed for alleged defamation in March. -- JP
