A worker died after falling from a broken platform, locally known as a gondola, from the 15th floor of office building Menara MTH on Jl. MT. Haryono, South Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Taufik, the 25-year-old victim, fell onto the 5th floor of the building and was later taken to Tebet Hospital, while his fellow worker who was on the same platform survived the fall.

"The victim did not properly use the safety belt. He was wearing it loosely, while his partner fastened his securely," said Genta Dharma, a security officer at the building, as quoted by detik.com.

He said the survivor hung from the platform before he managed to pull himself to safety.

According to a witness, the platform broke at about 4:30 p.m.

Mardiman, a bread seller who witnessed the accident, said he saw one worker directly fall to the 5th floor and the other one hanging by the rope until he managed to pull himself into the building.

Tebet Police are now investigating the case.

Accidents, which are caused by broken or platforms which fall, often occur in the city.

On July 29, a worker died and another one was in critical condition after a platform fell from the 32nd floor at the Rasuna Epicentrum in Kuningan, South Jakarta.

On Mar. 6, two technicians who were checking the building's suspension devices fell from the 9th floor of the Plaza Semanggi in Central Jakarta.

They fell to their death following a suspected malfunction of a maintenance platform.

Also earlier in March, a worker fell from the 27th floor of the Dharmawangsa's Essence Tower in South Jakarta.
