AKARTA: The Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) said Thursday that the alleged funds distributed to lawmakers following the election of senior deputy Bank Indonesia governor Miranda S. Goeltom may have come from outside the central bank.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should investigate the source of the 400 traveler's checks given to House of Representatives members, ICW activist Adnan Topan Husodo added.
"KPK should uncover the sponsor behind the money. The fund might come from the official herself or from another source which has direct financial interests in Indonesia," Adnan said.
Lawmaker Agus Condro Prayitno has admitted he and several fellow legislators from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle received traveler's checks worth Rp 500 million each after the election of Miranda.
The check he got was issued by Lippo Bank, he added. --JP
