JAKARTA: Rising R&B star Afghan Syah Reza is shining brighter in the music industry after winning two awards at the 2008 MTV Indonesian Awards.
Afghan, who recently produced an album which included the hits "Terima Kasih Cinta" (Thank You Love) and "Sadis" (Sadist), won the awards for Most Favorite Male and Artist of the Year.
The 19-year-old singer, who is also a student of the University of Indonesia's School of Economics, said he was proud and grateful for his achievement.
"I really didn't believe that I could win both these awards. I'm grateful and I dedicate both of them to my mom and my family, as well as all the people who have supported me," Afghan was quoted as saying by okezone.com on Friday.
Beside Afghan, newcomers d'Masiv band won the Most Breakthrough Artist, and The Changcuters won the Best Performance.
Other singers and bands that won MTV awards included Efek Rumah Kaca (Best Cutting-Edge Artist), Agnes Monica (Most Favorite Female), Yovie and Nuno (Most Favorite Band/Group/Duo) and Letto (Video of the Year). -- JP
