he organizer of the upcoming Asian Beach Games said Tuesday that it was having trouble gathering the funds needed for the event, which is scheduled to be held from Oct. 18 to 26.
The executive director of the event, Rita Subowo, said that so far the organizer had only managed to gather Rp 125 billion (US$13.4 million) of the Rp 300 billion required by the budget planning.
"We will make some efficiency cuts, but funds for procurements needed to hold the competitions will not be cut," Rita said as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.
The inaugural beach games, the second Asian multi-event competition to be hosted by Indonesian after the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta, will be held in Bali.
The event will feature 19 sporting events, two of which -- water polo and beach basketball -- were only included recently as exhibition sports.
