Your comments on the alleged bribery by an executive of Lippo's First Media to Mohammad Iqbal, member of the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU).
It's disgraceful that ordinary Indonesians are deprived of all EPL games free to air since last year through manipulation and corruption that is spreading like a cancer even in the private sector.
Now TV ONE is airing some games free but not the games between the top five teamsyet again disappointing the Indonesian public.

It looks like that each and every government body is beset with corruption. It makes one wonder and worry what will happen if the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) itself falls victim to this affliction (if it hasn't already!)

I would personally suggest that similar to other government institutions, the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) should be improved and fortified internally. In fact I am carefully watch for 2009 presidential candidates to see who could be bold enough to intensify KPK activities into such wrongdoings and other mischievous activities.

I think KPPU's decision is unfair because it was known that Astro TV was first to get the broadcasting rights from EES (ESPN Star Sport) to broadcast English Premier League (EPL) and then gave its rights to LIPPO Group's First Media.
Because this company failed to pay off what its owes Astro TV then it revoked the broadcast rights it had given to Lippo Group's First Media. As a result Astro TV is accused for monopolistic practices over EPL broadcast rights which was done without tender.
Because KPPU ruling is unjust and in favor of Lippo's Group First Media, it is possibly based on an agreement between them before KPPU imposed its rule for Astro TV.

All those criminals who hand out and receive bribes should be sentenced to death or for life, nothing less and no exceptions.

Following countries like Canada and the U.S., Indonesia pioneered domestic satellite communication systems in 1976.
However, after cellular and wireless communication systems boomed in the 1990s, we have not developed our satellite system very seriously, especially the commercial market for Ku-Band operating on 12/14 Gigahertz. Then, all of a sudden PT. Direct Vision (the sister company of Astro Malaysia) entered the national Pay TV market with the rights to broadcast EPL soccer.
The rest of that story shows our weaknesses.
First, Astro taught us, and kicked our a** by using Ku-Band for commercial purpose. Then the incumbents (Indovision and partners) took the case to the KPPU court condemning Direct Vision for anti-competitive practices.Third, and sadly said, to be able to see Ronaldo dan Drogba on their tubes, many of our richer people installed second dishes at home.
Then (you know the story) one of the KPPU commissioners was caught red-handed by the KPK for allegedly receiving cash from his business partner.
To conclude, being not ready for satellite technology and commercial competition, and having potholes in business regulations that have been complicated by corrupt practices, we have shown the world where we now stand in the satellite technology that we had once mastered! So, wake up my fellows Indonesians, tell them we are not inferior, but that indeed we are the Great Indonesia!
