JAKARTA: A man found a live mortar round in a sewer in Setiabudi, South Jakarta, on Sunday.
Sewer cleaner Ade, 30, found the warhead while dredging a sewer on Jl. Muria.
Mistaking it for scrap metal, Ade took the device to a nearby vacant house on Jl. Ujung Unggaran, and then later attempted to sell it. A would-be buyer, recognizing the explosive device for what it was, alerted Setiabudi Police.
"We have to report it to the police immediately ... there was a brawl in the area last week, so we don't want the police to think they are related," a resident, Taufik B. Azis, was quoted as saying by kompas.com.
The Jakarta Police bomb squad recovered the weapon at about 12:30 p.m. and took in Ade for questioning. -- JP
