BANDUNG: A man identified only as DH died of a suspected case of birdflu on Monday afternoon, after being treated in an isolated room at Bandung Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) for 18 hours.
Uun Sunardi of the hospital's birdflu handling team said the 32-year old poultry trader died of shock due to respiratory failure after acute pneumonia infected his lungs.
Uun said, since admitted to the hospital early Monday morning, DH's blood pressure was normal, but his respiratory system was in trouble. "He was still conscious when the shock attacked," Uun said.
Meanwhile RSHS's Director, Cissy Rachiana Prawira, said the hospital was still waiting for the patient's blood test result.
The data at the provincial health agency shows that, since the first birdflu case was detected in the province in 2004, 34 people have been positively identified as infected by the Avian Flu virus. Of them, 29 died. -- JP
