Creole: A Piece of heaven that's sweeter than sin

There are few things on this earth that can bring such pure joy as a well made chocolate concoction. I am a firm believer of this. Finding the perfect chocolate dessert has been a life-long quest of mine throughout my food-obsessed life.

Now, it is with great happiness that I can announce...

I have found the absolute chocolate mecca, right here in Jakarta!

Creole, which is located on the 2nd floor of the newly opened FX Lifestyle Center on Jl. Sudirman, is home to these little pieces of heaven I speak so fondly of.

On a recent visit to this exclusively dessert-only establishment, I was joined by my usual crew of chocoholics. One, a complete newbie to Creole, was immediately addicted.

The variety available at Creole is staggering and will satisfy every breed of chocolate lover, whether the more traditional sweet tooths or the more adventurous dessert hounds. There are a wide range of cakes, a plethora of bite-sized treats, delicious fruit smoothies and dreamy chocolate drinks. The creative flavors offered up by Creole's proprietor and Chocolatier, Jose 'Joy' Pelo, will shock and amaze you in ways you never thought possible.

There is so much great work going on at Creole, I'll just focus on some of the highlights of their selection. The Fondue platter, is in my opinion, the quarterback of Creole's all-star lineup. With it's large saucer of sweet dark chocolate, a marshmallow garnish surrounded by a delectable display of eclairs, grapes, melon scoops, strawberries, brownies, and various breadsticks and cookies, The Fondue is a must-have for every visitor to this establishment, particularly when with a group of friends.

Another winner is the Creole Belgian Spoil: A true crowd-pleaser with its chocolate orange flourless cake, milk choc praline mousse, hokey-poky ice cream (which my taste buds tell me has pistachio), and two chocolate squares of your choice (I personally recommend the passion fruit white chocolate for its subtle tang, and the chili chocolate for its seductive start and explosive finish).

If you don't feel like sharing and want to sneak off in a corner alone and indulge, I suggest a combination of one of their signature Belgian Hot Chocolate drinks (the Chili Blend being my favorite) or fruit smoothie (the Blackcurrant reigns supreme in this bunch) with one of their yummy cakes.

The stars of the cake crowd include the heavenly Dome Au Grand Marnier (which slowly but surely envelopes your taste buds in pure creamy pleasure), the colorful kicker Le Prestige (a strawberry orange cake with orange glaze and a tangy jelly center), the 'Blanc' White Chocolate Cheesecake (topped with sliced peaches, grape, strawberry, and pistachio nuts), and the newly added gem: the less sinful but totally refreshing Mango shortcake.

And now, for what this hopeless chocolate addict coins the most mouthgasmic combination ever... The Trio of Belgian Chocolate Mousse. Yes, I said mouthgasmic. There's no other word for it. It is simply that good. A white chocolate mousse flanked by a dark chocolate mousse on one side, and a milk chocolate mousse on the other, gorgeously garnished with thin pieces of beautifully handcrafted chocolate.

Drizzled on the side of the plate (and in a separate shot glass, if requested) is the divine addition that makes this offering pure genius: Chili and Lemongrass Raspberry Sauce. The blend of three distinctly sharp flavors (spicy, tangy, and sweet), takes the mousse (especially the white chocolate variety) to a realm of flavor I never thought possible. The sauce is so brilliant, I would buy it in bottles if it were available.

Basically, anyone who claims to be a lover of fine desserts would be foolish not to swing by the giant neon jungle of the new FX mall and sample the tantalizing treats of Creole.

With its friendly atmosphere, cozy couches, terrace seating outside (perfect on a nice cool night), and grand desserts, Creole is definitely one place you should share with your friends and loved ones. They won't ever forget it.
