SURABAYA: The November 10th Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS) is working together with the University of Olderburg in Germany and the Energy Technology Agency (B2TE) to develop alternative energy.

On Thursday, ITS spokeswoman Tri Sukmawati said the three sides had signed a memorandum of understanding to begin research on alternative energy at the ITS campus.

ITS rector Priyo Suprobo said the cooperation would focus on developing renewable energy because of decreasing supplies of fossil fuels, adding, "Indonesia has to continue seeking alternative energy to bring an end to fossil fuels."

Gabler, from the German university, said his side would contribute entrepreneurship and the technology needed in developing the alternative energy.

The government has allocated Rp 4.7 billion for the project and its research on alternative energy. --JP
