JAKARTA: Presenter, comedian, actress and singer Dorce Gamalama broke a national record Sunday, writing more than 1,000 songs within a “short time”.
“Until now I have written 1,100 songs, (among which) took only about a minute to make,” she was quoted as saying by Antara during the launching of her six new albums.
The albums feature different music styles, including traditional Malay and dangdut.
“I am proud of what I have achieved. This will motivate me to stay creative in 2009,” said the singer.
She said that what she did was purely cathartic, saying she did not intend to compete with the other songwriters or singers. “I am content and proud of playing the songs I have written myself.”
This is not her first record from the Indonesian Museum of Records, or MURI. In March she simultaneously released 13 albums, featuring more than 70 musicians, including singer Edo Kondologit.
The 45-year-old, who underwent a sex-change operation in 1984, now hosts an Oprah-like talk show, The Dorce Show. — JP
