President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will soon install 15 envoys recently approved by the House of Representatives, including new Indonesian ambassadors to Australia, Germany, Pakistan and to the UN in Geneva, a lawmaker has said.
Djoko Susilo, a member of the House's Commission I overseeing Defense and Foreign Affairs, said Tuesday the House had already cleared Primo Alui Joelianto as ambassador to Australia, Dian Triansyah Djani as the country's UN representative in Geneva and Izak Latu Consina as ambassador to Pakistan.Eddy Pratomo, previously director general for legal and international treaties affairs, who was reported to become the next Indonesian ambassador to Germany, confirmed the clearance to The Jakarta Post.
Djoko refused to reveal the other 11 names, saying they weresignificant prominence".
Primo, a career diplomat, was previously posted in Jakarta as Foreign Ministry director general of Asia Pacific and Africa affairs. Dian was director general of ASEAN affairs and Latu Consina was formerly a House member.
Primo is swapping positions with Hamzah Thayeb, the incumbent ambassador to Australia; Dian will succeed Makarim Wibisono, who has returned to Jakarta after completing his tenure in Geneva.
Prior to his last post, Primo, 59, was director of East Asia and Pacific affairs, and in 2004 began a two-year stint as ambassador to New Zealand. He has been assigned to a number of postings, including Brazil, Venezuela, Algeria and France.
Dian, 46, began his foreign service career in 1985 after graduating from the University of Indonesia. He was posted as a permanent ambassador to the UN in New York from 1991 to 1994. He later became the director of multilateral trade and investment in February 2002 and took on his most recent position as director general of ASEAN affairs in December 2005.
Eddy Pratomo is a former deputy ambassador at the Indonesian Embassy in London before he was promoted to the director general position in 2006. He was born in Semarang on Oct. 5, 1953.
Six new ambassadors from Cambodia, Denmark, Egypt, Greece, Qatar, and Uzbekistan are scheduled to submit their letters of credence to Yudhoyono this week.
