AKARTA: A Sriwijaya Air jetliner was forced to cancel its flight after a bird was sucked into one of its engines just before take off at Radin Inten Airport in Bandar Lampung, Lampung on Friday morning, tempointeraktif.com reported.

The Boeing 737-200 jet was about to take off for Jakarta when an explosion was heard at 10:00 a.m.; the plane then tilted to one side.

Pilot Heryawan then cancelled take-off. A team from the airlines later found the burnt remains of a bird inside the jet engine.

"It's confirmed that the small explosion was caused by the bird," airport head Dharmadji said. "But there wasn't any serious damage," he added.
