ADANG: Mt. Kerinci's volcanic activities have recently decreased although there are still tremors and a spew of black ashes.
The head of the Mt. Kerinci observation post in Kersik Tuo village, Kayu Aro district in Kerinci regency, Jambi, Heru Prasetyo, said Sunday that small eruptions still happened every 15 minutes at the 3,800-meter volcano site.
"However, the activities are already reduced compared to early April when the volcano became active again.
"We are installing a device in Pelompek, some 5 kilometers from the peak to monitor the eruptions and ashes."
Mt. Kerinci is located in the borders of Kerincin regency with South Solok regency, West Sumatra.
The volcano remains at the second alert level it was designated on Sept. 9, 2007.
