One killed by Transjakarta bus on Jl. Letjen Soeprapto

JAKARTA: A Transjakarta bus traveling on Jl. Letjen Soeprapto in Central Jakarta hit a man identified as V. Silaen on Monday morning.

Witnesses said Silaen, a resident of Sumurbatu in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, was crossing the street. A Transjakarta bus hit him and his body was propelled about five meters away from the site.

The bus driver Ratih Deswanti was taken to Central Jakarta Police.

Ratih said she tried to avoid hitting Silaen by steering to the right, but to no avail.

"I was shocked to see a man crossing the street," she said, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

The head of the newly established Busway-related Accident Unit at the Jakarta Police, Comr. Herman Ruswandi, said so far he had dealt with five Transjakarta busway-related accidents.

Many accidents involving the Transjakarta busway usually occur when a road user walks across busway lanes. - JP
