AKARTA: The Indonesian government has called on its citizens to vote online for the Komodo National Park to become one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
People can vote on www.new7wonders.com. The voting period for each category will be closed by July 7. The park now ranks 9th among 56 nominees in the category of Forest, National Parks and Nature Reserves.
The Culture and Tourism Ministry said it would have several cities on the campaigning agenda for the park, starting with Bandung between June 15 and 21, in Cihampelas Walk, with pop band concerts completed with booths for people to directly vote the park online. Yogyakarta is next.
Sapta Nirwanda, the ministry's director general of marketing, said, "The Komodo National Park is one of our most precious treasures. Around the world, we can only find the Komodo giant reptile in this park."
