AYAPURA: A student has reportedly been shot by a military officer in Kampung Skouw Jauh, an area on the Indonesia-Papua New Guinea border, Catholic priest John Jonga said Tuesday.

Jonga, from the Jayapura Diocese, said the junior high student, identified as Isak Psakor, was shot in his chest as he and his mother and brother tried to scale a tree in an effort to escape from four security dogs on Monday.

"At about 150 meters from the military post, the victim and his family were chased by the dogs.

The officer fired five shots and then called the dogs off. We could evacuate the boy on Tuesday.

He is now being treated at the hospital."
