ADANG: Mt. Talang in Solok regency, West Sumatra, began spewing ash and triggering earthquakes Thursday.
Coordinator of the West Suma-tra Disaster Mitigation Center, Ade Edward, said one of the quakes, which measured 5.4 on the Richter scale, struck Thursday evening and shook the Padang city waters.
"First, several tremors oc-curred. Then ash spewed from the mountain's crater. If the activities continue to increase, the status of the mountain might be increased to a level of caution," Ade told The Jakarta Post on Thursday night.
