Who refuses when he or she are invited to meet the most beautiful woman in Indonesia, Miss Indonesia 2009, Kerenina Sunny Halim?
Most of us would certainly not miss such an occasion. Diplomats are no exception.
Despite their busy schedule, more than a dozen ambassadors along with their spouses attended a gala dinner called Meet and Greet Miss Indonesia 2009 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jakarta on June 26, 2009.
The dinner was organized by noted film producer Raam Punjabi and his wife Raakhee Punjabi as well as Liliana and Hary Tanoesoedibjo.
Besides diplomats, several public figures like former Jakarta governor Sutiyoso, noted singer Titiek Puspha, actors and actresses, models and businesspeople were present at the gathering.
“She [Karenina] is really beautiful. She is also a smart woman,” Jordan Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Hassan Dawodieh said.
Raam specially invited South Africa’s Ambassador-designate Noel N. Lehoko to the gathering.
“Miss Indonesia 2009 will be going to Johannesburg in South Africa in the coming months to participate in the Miss World contest. We invited the South African Ambassador so we could introduce Karenina to the Ambassador.”
The 59th Miss World pageant will be held in South Africa on Dec. 12, 2009. Last year’s winner Ksenia Sukhinova from Russia was present in Jakarta when Karenina was crowned as Miss Indonesia last month.
Karenina’s mother is an American and father is an Indonesian. There was also some controversy about her Indonesian language skills and her knowledge of Indonesian culture. But she was sincere in admitting her weaknesses.
“Currently, I don’t know much about Indonesian culture,” she said, adding she will learn more about Indonesian culture and language in the coming months.
Everybody at the gathering wished her success in Johannesburg.
