JAKARTA: In a first for Indonesian orchestra, the Twilite Orchestra will perform for the Australian public at the world-famous Sydney Opera House.
Composer and conductor Addie MS and his Twilite Orchestra will perform at the Sydney Opera House on July 21 in a concert called “Indonesia – A Touch of Harmony”.
“We sent our demo to be reviewed by curators in Australia,” Addie said, as quoted by detik.com. “They liked it and agreed for us to hold our concert at the Sydney Opera House.”
As well as bringing together some of Indonesia’s best musicians, the full-sized orchestra will collaborate with Australian musicians including runner-up of the 2006 Australian Idol competition Jessica Mauboy and sopranos Binu D Sukaman and Utha Likumahuwa.
The orchestra will bring an Indonesia touch to the multi-venue performing arts center by presenting Indonesian songs such as “Indonesia Pusaka”, a patriotic song composed by Ismail Marzuki, and “Bengawan Solo” (River Solo), composed by Gesang. Tickets are priced at A$35 and A$55.
One day before leaving for Sydney on July 17, the orchestra will hold a similar concert at the XXI Ballroom Jakarta Theatre.
The concert at the Unesco World Heritage site in Sydney, said director general of marketing at the
Culture and Tourism Ministry Sapta Nirwandar, was an effort to take Indonesian culture to the Australian public as well as to attract more Australian tourists to visit Indonesia. — JP
