ENPASAR: A group of Balinese poets and musicians will participate at the 1st Aceh International Literary Festival, to be held from Aug. 5-6. The group comprises poet Tan Lioe Ie, bassist Putu Indrawan, guitarist Gede Subawa and drummer Nyoman Gariyasa.
Since early this year, the group has experimented with fusing blues with poetry, focusing mostly on Tan's original works.
Tan has published several anthologies, and his works have been translated to English and Dutch. He has participated in various national and international literary events.
Indrawan is a former member of the island's legendary rock band, Harley Angels.
"We want to present something different, a creative dialogue between blues and poetry," Tan said.
In the festival, the group will perform several compositions, including "Malam Cahaya Lampion", which deals with the spirit of human brotherhood, and "Co Kong Tik", a homage to ancestors.
Their trip will be funded by the Denpasar administration.
