ALEMBANG: A worker union has reminded employers in the city to pay their employees' holiday bonuses (THR) seven days before Idul Fitri, at the latest.
Employers should heed the advice to prevent apprehension among workers, besides it being their right to receive THR, South Sumatra Food, Beverage and Cigarette Workers' Union chairman Aminoto said in Palembang on Monday.
THR was previously just a tradition ahead of religious holidays, but it had become an obligation for companies, as stipulated in Law. No. 13/2003 and Manpower Ministerial Decree No. 4/1994 on THR, which were binding, Aminoto said.
"By law, employers must pay their workers' THR seven days before Idul Fitri at the latest, so it could be maximized to meet workers' needs before the holiday. What could they buy if the THR is only paid at the last minute?" he said.
