AKARTA: The Jakarta administration says it will complete construction of an overpass on Jl. Satrio, more popularly known as Casablanca, in South Jakarta by 2011.
The administration is currently determining the winner of a tender for the elevated road's basic design engineering (BDE), beritajakarta.com reports.
The plan is to have an elevated road from Kampung Melayu in East Jakarta to Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta. Traffic along Casablanca is often congested, especially in front of ITC Kuningan and Ambasador Mall.
Novizal, head of the Jakarta Public Works Agency's bridge division, said the winner of the BDE tender would be announced in mid-October this year.
The BDE process is expected to be completed in seven months, with construction to start in mid-2010.
"We're targeting the first phase of the overpass *Casablanca to Jl. K.H. Mas Mansyur* to be completed by 2011," Novizal said Sunday.
He added the project was among the city's dedicated programs, meaning it would get priority funding from the administration.
