JAKARTA: Having been diagnosed with cervical cancer, veteran singer and composer Titiek Puspa has refused to bow down, saying she wants to remain productive.
“She never parts from her work,” Titiek’s daughter, Petty Tunjungsari, said Monday as quoted by entertainment news portal kapanlagi.com.
“In the two months she spent at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore she wrote 61 songs of various genres.”
Titiek is currently undergoing chemotherapy in the city-state.
“She’s very optimistic and willing to positively go through the treatment, despite having to go back and forth to the hospital,” Petty said.
“She’s had four chemo sessions and 24 radiations so far.”
The 72-year-old singer, popular in the 1960s and 1970s, just wants to kill time productively while she’s away from the local music scene, Petty added.
“She enjoys composing songs, whether it’s the music or the lyrics. It doesn’t feel like work at all for her. It’s just her way of being.” — JP
