fter 13 years working in the fashion industry, fashion designer Denny Wirawan showcased his first solo fashion show "Unveiling Treasures", with a collection bearing his signature designs.

"Unveiling Treasures" lets fashion lovers to enjoy Denny's creative inventions, such as jackets and blouses with masculine bow-tie collars, aristocratic puffy sleeves, dramatic ruffle blouses, super-wide maxi skirts, chiffon dresses with Pucci-style patterns, layered or dramatic sequined dresses.

"To make them look fresh, I have enriched them with new techniques, such as foiling and flocking," Denny says.

The foiling technique is the application of metallic colors to fabric using heat, while flocking is a technique of embossing patterns using velvet fabric. Foiling appears like melted silver and gold on taffeta, while velvet emboss on rumpled fabric enriches its texture.

The fashion show, comprising 39 women's and 15 men's outfits, was divided into four sequences. The first was dedicated to Celebrity Fitness, one of Denny's sponsors for the event. Featuring the traditional woven cloth of Southeast Sulawesi, tolaki, this sequence used pure woven fabrics to which Denny had not applied any prints. He also incorporated gold and silver threads amidst the woven cloth's brightly colored threads.

"Sulawesi's woven fabrics have been featured by various designers. But it has 10 regencies and each of them has its own unique weaving patterns. This time I featured the weaving of Buton-Muna regency, which is all about geometric stripes - not checkered patterns," he said.

Through the bold colors of the fabric this first had a sporty and energetic spirit. It included volumized pants and skirts made paired from woven fabric, paired with purple or red tops, as well as a sleeveless gold parka with lining made from tolaki weaving paired with purple shorts or trousers. In Denny's hands, these geometric stripes come out in patterns of horizontal, vertical or herringbone.

The second sequence used a metallic-silver palette. Opening with a mini cocktail dress with a sexy and slim feel, the sequence had a combination of jacquard, feathers and sequins. To close the second sequence, Denny presented maxi chiffon dresses with metallic effects that glittered in the light.

In the third sequence, Denny showcased gold with sparkling effects. Gold-colored jackets combined and enriched with metallic effects were the highlight. Here Denny applied laser cuts to make eyelets on the gold-colored jackets.

The metallic effect has not yet to become a fashion favorite, because it looks hard and cold. However, Denny's third sequence is proved metallic reflections can look warm or cold, depending on how the material, color and accessories are applied.

In the last sequence, Denny took his inspiration from nature. While he used taffeta for the second and third sequences, here Denny tried something different by making animal prints on suede. Brown colors gave the collection an exotic feel. For the finale it was maxi dresses with foiling, frills and colorful stones forming big patterns.

In his first solo fashion show, Denny focused on men's wear because he plans to start a new men's wear line to meet market's demands. While Denny's men's range is not unlike the women's designs, also bearing foiling and flocking techniques, the men's wear has its own masculine touches. As usual, Denny features jackets and jodhpur pants. But adds zippers to create volume.

Denny, who has designed stage costumes for KD, Titi DJ, Ruth Sahanaya and Melly Goeslaw, has also held fashion shows with other designers. Through his first solo show, Denny hoped the public would see his specialized design talents.
